A Day in the Country II
With Seniors Connect

Once again, we are off for a day of gardens and great food! Join us on Thursday, June 12 for a visit to Rural Rootz and Earthbound Gardens, and lunch at Wildwood Lodge Resort.
We will carpool to Rural Rootz for a 10:30 visit, then off for a great lunch at 12:30 at Wildwood (Lasagne, salad, dessert and beverage – all for $12.50 including tax and gratuity).
After lunch, we will head for Earthbound Gardens for a second indulgence in nature’s gifts.
This will be a first for Seniors Connect, as we gather with Tobermory, Lion’s Head, and Wiarton groups. We look forward to reconnecting with some old friends, and finding new ones!
For information, call your local Seniors Connect contact by June 9 so we can tell Wildwood:

Sauble Sandpipers Update
by Joan Wilson

(L-r) Sandpiper Linda Hollinger; Sheelagh Grenon, Volunteer Co-ordinator, Colour Me Confident Program and Sandpiper Del Lourie.

Is there any family untouched by cancer? Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound has a program operated by volunteers, called “Colour Me Confident”. This program was developed to help people living with cancer who are experiencing changes in appearance as a result of treatment. GBHS volunteer, Sheelagh Grenon, leads the program, which offers practical tips about using skin care products, cosmetics, wigs and hair coverings to camouflage visible side effects.
Sadly, they are always in need of head coverings to donate to those with hair loss and, early in April the Sandpipers got a call for help. Sheelagh spoke with another hospital volunteer and Sandpiper, Del Lourie, and the Club was quick to rally. A group of eager ladies including: Donna Anthony, Marilyn Bowman, Sandy Breutigam, Margaret Butterworth, Joan Conyard, June Dougall, Alice Ertel, Carol Ewles, Debbie Fortney, Ruth Joseph, Barbara Hutchinson, Linda Hollinger, Del Lourie, Bette Mortley, Betty Murphy, Helen Meyer, Eleanor Redford, Shirley Redmond, Louise Stewart, Marilyn Wallace and Joan Wilson carried sewing machines and surgers, scissors and material, cutting boards and ironing boards into the Community Centre.
Under the watchful eye of Linda Hollinger and Del Lourie, we were able to send Sheelagh back to the hospital with 175 headcoverings in 4 different patterns. A most worthwhile project and one the Sauble Sandpipers have committed to support next year. We’ll meet once a month from September until May with a goal of 60 headcoverings a session. If you or your Club wishes to help cancer patients in this fashion, contact the Volunteer Office at the hospital 519-376-2121, extension 2886. Leave a message and Sheelagh will get back to you.
