Bruce Peninsula Seniors Connect
Computer Program

The first part of the Computer program has been completed. To date, 128 Seniors have completed Computer Training.
Sauble Beach: – 20 participants on 20 computers
Wiarton: – 54 participants on 22 computers
Lion’s Head: – 39 participants on 12 computers
Tobermory: – 15 participants on 10 computers
      (and 2 in-home)
Overall, the Program to date has been a success. Each participant was asked to fill out a comment sheet after the course was finished and the response was very favourable. Special thanks goes out to all of the Trainers and Assistants. They did a super job.
Bruce Peninsula Seniors Connect has been asked to donate a Computer to the Brad Davis Apartments in Tobermory for the use of Seniors in the building. There are funds available under the Grant Program to pay for Internet installation and the Tobermory Legion has agreed to pay for the Internet fees for one year. Amtelecom has donated the first 3 months of Internet Service. Jim Cosgrove, one of the Training Assistants lives in the apartments and has agreed to look after any maintenance issues.
At the present time, we have a waiting list of several people who would like basic Computer Training in the Lion’s Head area. There have also been requests for more advanced Computer Training for those who have completed the initial course and who already have a computer. Participants in all of the areas have indicated that they would like to have more Programs in the future. The Board is interested in pursuing this, however, at the present time there is no money available for the Program and fund-raising will have to take place before we can continue. A Tea and Bake Sale has been scheduled for 7 October, 2009 at the Anglican Parish Hall in Lion’s Head and proceeds from the day will go towards the program.

MEMBERSHIP FEE

At the June meeting of Bruce Peninsula Seniors Connect, a motion was passed to have an annual membership fee of $10.00 as of September1, 2009. In order to carry out the mandate of Seniors Connect, and to be able to provide information to seniors in a timely manner, we require someone in the office on at least a part time basis. Membership fees, along with money raised at fund raising events, will allow us to do this. Also a membership fee is a requirement for some Government Grants.
