Seniors Connect Receives Grant

Good News. Our application for funding under the “Internship Program of the Rural Development Fund” has been approved. As the funding is only available until the end of March, we had to move fairly quickly.
Because of the overwhelming response to the Computer Training Program, the Board of Seniors Connect felt it was important to develop other new programs of interest to seniors. With this new funding, Julie Carpenter has been hired and will be working on new Programs and Activities for Seniors on the Peninsula. As well, it will allow Seniors Connect to have the office open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday to Friday at least until the end of March. Watch for new information as it becomes available.

The next Board Meeting will be at 2:00 p.m.,
Wednesday, February 17, 2010
at 90 Main Street, Lion’s Head.

ALL WELCOME

Guest Speaker at Coffee Connection
Peggy Mouliason, from “CHARTWELL Select Retirement Home”, was a guest speaker at a recent Coffee Connection.
This facility in Owen Sound has a Short Stay Program, where seniors are able to move in to Chartwell for the winter months. While there, they can enjoy all the amenities, a Games Room, Activity Room, Country Kitchen, Lounge and Library, Spa, Salon and a Theatre. Two ladies who are residents at the facility accompanied Ms. Mouliason and said that living at Chartwell felt like being on a holiday.

Computer Courses

At the present time one Basic and two Advanced Computer Courses are taking place at the Seniors Connect office. These courses will be completed at the end of January. However, we have had several requests for more training and new classes will be starting in the spring. Watch for further updates.

New Volunteers Needed
As Programs are developed, new volunteers will be needed. If you enjoy working with seniors and could volunteer for a few hours each week, please call 519-793-3781 or drop in to the office.

Seniors Craft Club
Bruce Peninsula Seniors Connect is organizing a Craft Club at the Seniors Connect office. This program is open to all interested seniors in the area.
The objective is to involve seniors in craft activities, and to provide an opportunity for seniors to gather for a social time.
Volunteers will be needed to assist with program, and are welcome to introduce new craft ideas.
If you are interested in taking part in the program, or would like to volunteer, call Julie at 519-793-3781.
